So, as promised here are my fajitaless steak fajitas. I baked and then broiled some steak with Montreal steak seasoning and made some rice, black beans, and sauteed onions and mushrooms. The rice was made with chicken broth (3 parts broth 1 part water) and the beans had some lovely sodiumlicious goya sazon. The steak was rare and delicious, but obviously if that is too rare for you, by all means leave it under the broiler for a few more minutes.
After our meal we had an entire steak and a lot of rice left, so the next day I chopped the steak up into little bite size pieces along with some mushrooms and peppers and threw them in the pot. When they started to sweat and heat up, I poured the remaining cooked rice in and some thawed frozen shrimp. I doused the whole pot with a ton of soy sauce and hot sauce and cracked an egg in the pot, then I just stirred until everything was combined and I had some delicious fried rice. I did not take a picture, because unfortunately this was not as pretty of a dish, but let me tell you it was DELICIOUS and a great way to make a second meal out of left overs with a completely different taste.
I apologize for my almost month long absence, it has been a crazy time with wisdom tooth recovery, holidays, Joonbug.com posts, and general debauchery. I promise to come back full force with recipes, some restaurant reviews, and useless pondering that has run through my mind.

After 5 days of intense pain, swelling, liquids, and pain medications, I seem to be turning the corner toward recovery. This clearly means that I decided to cook as soon as I felt like I could stand longer than 30 minutes. Our fridge is pretty bare, but I do have some butternut squash and so I decided to make some butternut squash soup from scratch. I am sort of throwing this together and it has not finished cooking yet, so I will keep you posted!
So far all I did was: peel and chop one medium butternut squash, cut up a bunch of baby carrots, and chopped one yellow onion. I then threw them into a pot with about 2.5 table spoons of butter to brown and then poured enough chicken stock to barely cover the veggies. I am letting them simmer and then will put them in my blender for a quick puree. I have seasoned with salt, pepper, and cinnamon and poured a SPLASH of half and half for some creaminess.
Cross your fingers! It smells yummy and I am hungryyyyy!
